Drum Making : Sweat Lodge : Songs and Stories
Join full-blooded Cherokee Yonaguska FrenchHawk for a weekend of Cherokee culture. Participants will experience activities ranging from drum making with elk hide, to traditional sweat lodge,  with lots of ancestral stories in between. Connect with your tribe of like-hearted people in this beautiful family owned and operated forest retreat in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.
Yona is living out his vision of sharing his ancestral traditions with the world. He is excited by the opportunity to be a witness and sometime guide of this next generation's journey. Using elk hide and methods learned from Yona's grandfather, with the help of his uncles and other relatives, participants will construct their own 10" hand drum, and bless them through sweat lodge and pipe ceremony. Yona feels at home in this East Tennessee Sweet Hollow, and will guide the group through silent nature sits. His sense of humor shines through his story telling, mixing personal adventures and reflections with ancient songs and tales.

Facilitator

Yona FrenchHawk grew up in the Cherokee homeland, learning the traditions through his father of the Bear Clan and his mother of the Eagle Clan. He has dedicated his life to sharing the ancestral teachings and sharing their relevance. As a drummer, singer, story teller and spiritual guide he’s travelled far and wide bringing his vision where he’s called and in his own words, “just showing up.” He's also an accomplished point guard and sportsman, always happy to play a game.
